The Minto Farmers’ Market is getting a new Harriston location for the coming season. The market, which has operated on Fridays on property owned by Harriston Motors on Elora Street for the past two summers, will be moving to the former railway station here.
Economic and business manager Belinda Wick-Graham reported on the move at the Feb. 19 council meeting She said the Harriston Train Station on Arthur Street, with its large shaded lawn, “will provide a bit more of an atmosphere for our market and a bit cooler temperature for our vendors.”
She added, “We thank Harriston Motors for hosting us for the past two season.”
The move means both farmer’s markets in Minto will be operated at former train stations owned by the town. A market also runs on Saturday mornings at the Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum property during the season.
During her report on economic development activities, Wick-Graham noted there is interest from purchasers in acquiring properties at the town’s industrial parks in both Harriston and Palmerston.
“We have one pending sale in the Palmerston Industrial Park and two potential sales in Harriston for this year.”
Farm Fresh Poultry, which is located in the Harriston Industrial Park, recently purchased an additional 4.5 acres of property at that location, Wick Graham reported.
